While capitalism prioritizes profit and market freedom, Islamic economics emphasizes equitable wealth distribution grounded in the values of tauhid (oneness of God), khilafah (stewardship), and maslahah (public interest). This study aims to critically analyze how the principles of distributive justice in Islamic economics can address contemporary issues of economic inequality and social injustice. Employing a descriptive qualitative method through an integrative literature review, this research examines classical Islamic economic texts and contemporary scholarly works, focusing on themes of justice, wealth redistribution, and ethical governance. The findings indicate that Islamic economic justice requires not only the prohibition of exploitative practices such as riba and monopoly but also active state involvement in regulating distribution and promoting social welfare. The integration of moral values such as justice, amanah (trust), and social responsibility into policy-making is essential for achieving sustainable and inclusive economic development. The study concludes that the framework of Islamic distributive justice offers a holistic and value-driven approach to economic policymaking, with potential applications in addressing structural poverty and fostering a just society.
Kasmawati Kasmawati, Mawardi Mawardi Copyright (c) 2025 Kasmawati, Mawardi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/11444 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0800 Dari Modernisme Islam ke Islamisme: Transformasi Ideologi dan Gerakan Islam di Aceh http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/10990
This study examines how Islamic modernism in Aceh evolved into Islamism, based on evidence from historical records. The author argues that Islamic modernism played a key role in shaping the rise of Islamism in Aceh. To support this, the study breaks the development into three key periods. The first period focuses on the spread of Islamic modernist ideas through the madrasa network. The second period explores how these ideas interacted with the growing sense of Indonesian nationalism. The third period examines how Islamist ideas became more established, particularly with the introduction of local democracy after the peace agreement that ended the conflict. This study employs a qualitative methodology with a historical approach, with data collected through literature review and archival document analysis. The study concludes that Islamic modernism was important in forming Islamist ideology in Aceh. The study concludes that Islamic modernism was important in forming Islamist ideology in Aceh. Unlike other studies that link Islamic modernism with support for democracy, this research shows that in Aceh, the shift from Islamic modernism to Islamism has led to a more skeptical attitude toward modern concepts like human rights and democracy. This study offers a nuanced perspective on the ideological trajectory of Islamic thought in Aceh by challenging the dominant narrative that Islamic modernism is inherently aligned with democratic values. Through a periodized analysis and a focus on Aceh’s unique political history, the study enriches our understanding of the complex relationship between religion, nationalism, and democratization in Muslim-majority regions.
M. Existing studies largely approach this issue descriptively, leaving a gap in normative analysis concerning the transformation of legality and its constitutional limits. This study critically examines the incorporation of living law in the KUHP 2023 by analyzing its implications for the shift from formal legality toward material legality and the resulting tension between legal certainty, human rights, and communal justice. Employing normative legal research, this study applies statutory, conceptual, and philosophical approaches, drawing on theories of material legality, legal pluralism, and constitutionalism. The analysis focuses on relevant provisions of the KUHP 2023, legal doctrines, and international human rights principles to assess the conditions and limits of applying living law within criminal law. The findings reveal that the recognition of living law represents a deliberate move toward a socially responsive criminal justice system. However, this shift also generates inherent human rights challenges, particularly concerning the foreseeability of criminal norms and the risk of arbitrary enforcement. This study argues that such tensions cannot be eliminated but must be managed through constitutional interpretation, judicial restraint, and human rights–based oversight. The study contributes a normative framework for balancing legality, human rights protection, and communal justice within Indonesia’s plural legal system, offering guidance for legislators, judges, and law enforcement authorities.
Dion Ario, Swandi Aliverchan Situngkir, Fernandes Situngkir, Elviandri Copyright (c) 2025 lentera https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/13426 Wed, 31 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0800 Relevansi Hukum Perdata Islam dalam Merespons Perubahan Sosial di Indonesia: Analisis Yuridis dan Filosofis http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/12585
Islamic Civil Law plays a significant role in regulating social, economic, and religious relations in Indonesia. In the context of rapid social transformation, the application of Islamic civil law within Indonesia’s pluralistic society requires critical examination from both juridical and philosophical perspectives. One of the main challenges lies in ensuring that Islamic civil law remains responsive to dynamic social change while preserving its foundational religious and moral principles. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the relevance of Islamic civil law in addressing social change in Indonesia and to examine its application through juridical and philosophical approaches. This research employs a qualitative library-based method with normative analysis, drawing on legal literature, scholarly books, academic journals, and other relevant sources related to Islamic civil law and social change in Indonesia. The findings indicate that Islamic civil law remains highly relevant in responding to social change, particularly in the regulation of family relations, economic activities, and social interactions. From a juridical perspective, Islamic civil law demonstrates adaptability in accommodating evolving societal conditions. Philosophically, it maintains a balance between adherence to religious values and responsiveness to contemporary social needs. This combination of juridical flexibility and philosophical consistency is essential to sustaining the effectiveness and relevance of Islamic civil law within Indonesia’s continually evolving social context.
Muhammad Yayad Ari Hidayat, Muhammad Taufiqurrahman, Pebriyan Nugroho, Asrizal Saiin Copyright (c) 2025 lentera https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/12585 Wed, 31 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0800 Educational, Social, and Economic Development Efforts in Indonesia: What Can Muhammadiyah Contribute? http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/11048
Despite the extensive discussion of Islamic organizations in Indonesia, existing studies tend to examine Muhammadiyah’s role in education, social services, or economic activities in a fragmented manner, without providing an integrated analysis of its contributions to national development. This gap highlights the need for a comprehensive examination of Muhammadiyah’s multifaceted role in educational, social, and economic development. Accordingly, this research aims to analyze Muhammadiyah’s contributions to these three sectors and to assess its significance as an agent of social change in Indonesia. This study employs a qualitative research design using a literature review approach, drawing on books, academic journals, organizational reports, and other relevant scholarly sources. The findings reveal that Muhammadiyah has made substantial contributions to the development of a modern and inclusive education system through its extensive network of educational institutions, while also strengthening social resilience through community empowerment programs, health services, and humanitarian initiatives. In the economic sphere, Muhammadiyah promotes sharia-based entrepreneurship and supports the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises, thereby fostering economic independence. These findings suggest that Muhammadiyah’s adaptive strategies and commitment to Islamic values enable it to remain responsive to contemporary challenges. This study implies that Muhammadiyah’s integrated approach to education, social welfare, and economic development can serve as a strategic model for strengthening the role of civil society organizations in supporting sustainable national development.
Harun Alrasyid, Ramlianto Ramlianto, Abdul Malik Copyright (c) 2025 lentera https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/11048 Mon, 29 Dec 2025 12:39:56 +0800 Reputasi Sosial dan Etika Kepemimpinan Spiritual: Analisis Historis terhadap Legitimasi Kepemimpinan Nabi Muhammad http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/11203
Existing studies on spiritual leadership often emphasize theological legitimacy or charismatic authority, while paying limited attention to the role of social reputation and ethical formation as foundational elements in the emergence of religious leadership. This gap highlights the need to examine how integrity and honesty function as forms of social capital that enable the transformation of individuals into recognized spiritual leaders. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the role of social reputation and ethical preparation in establishing the legitimacy of spiritual leadership, with a primary focus on the Prophet Muhammad and a comparative perspective involving other religious figures. This research employs a qualitative methodology using historical and comparative approaches, based on the analysis of classical texts, historical archives, and relevant narrative sources. The findings demonstrate that a consistently maintained reputation for integrity and honesty constitutes a critical form of social capital that facilitates the transition from social roles to spiritual leadership. Moreover, mediation practices, economic engagement, and contemplative activities are identified as key factors that shape leaders’ ethical character and reinforce their legitimacy. This study contributes a holistic conceptual framework that integrates social capital theory with the study of spiritual leadership, thereby enriching the discourse in the sociology of religion and leadership ethics. The findings further imply that integrity and honesty are not merely personal virtues, but fundamental drivers of social trust, religious authority, and transformative leadership across diverse religious contexts.
Dliya'uddin Achmad, Ahmad Musyafiq Copyright (c) 2025 lentera https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/11203 Wed, 31 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0800 Inovasi Pendidikan Islam di Era Digital: Penguatan Nilai-Nilai Qurani bagi Generasi Masa Depan http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/11696
The digital era has brought significant transformations across various aspects of life, including Islamic education. The rapid development of digital technologies, such as the internet, social media, and artificial intelligence, presents both challenges and opportunities in fostering a Quranic generation, namely individuals who uphold the Quran as a fundamental guide in their lives. However, scholarly discussions on how Islamic education can innovatively respond to digital transformation while preserving Quranic values remain limited. This study aims to analyze the urgency and forms of innovation in Islamic education in addressing the challenges of the digital era without compromising the essence of Quranic values. This research employs a qualitative method with a library-based approach, drawing on books, academic journals, and relevant scholarly sources related to Islamic education and digital transformation. The findings indicate that innovation in Islamic education encompasses the development of technology-based curricula, learning strategies, methods, and media, as well as contextual pedagogical approaches oriented toward character building and the internalization of Quranic values. Furthermore, teachers and Islamic educational institutions play a central role in integrating digital technology with spiritual and moral education. This study concludes that through appropriate and sustainable innovation, Islamic education can produce a generation that is not only digitally competent but also spiritually grounded, morally upright, and adaptable to contemporary challenges.
Basri Ibrahim Copyright (c) 2025 lentera https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/lentera/article/view/11696 Mon, 29 Dec 2025 13:22:39 +0800
