As a pesantren cleric and structural NU figure, Thaifur represents Madurese clerical authority. In his career, he provides critical responses to Muktazilah thoughts, including such issues as the inability to see God in heaven, God's obligation to do good, and God's promises and threats. This library research uses the content analysis method. Using the sociology of knowledge approach, this study finds that Thaifur Ali Wafa's response to Muktazilah thought reflects the strong influence of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah ideology. This ideology was formed due to Madurese cultural factors and Thaifur Ali Wafa's scientific genealogy. This article is significant in illustrating the network and intellectual relationship between Nusantara Muslims and Middle Eastern scholars, which is crucial in the writing of Islamic scholarly works in the archipelago, including in Madura. It reflects the complexity and diversity of Islamic thought in the region, which is influenced by intercultural interactions and intellectual exchanges that have taken place over centuries.
Khairul Atfal Ahmad Zaidanil Kamil Abu Bakar Copyright (c) 2023 Khairul Atfal Khairul Atfal, Ahmad Zaidanil Kamil, Abu Bakar https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-28 2023-12-28 8 2 186 208 10.32505/at-tibyan.v8i2.7035 FUTURISTIC ISLAMIC STUDIES IN AGUS MUSTOFA'S AUDIOVISUAL EXEGESIS https://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/tibyan/article/view/6945
Agus Mustofa is a controversial figure because his thoughts are considered deviant. Even so, he remains productive in writing and interpreting verses from the Al-Qur’an on his YouTube channel, which has hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Agus Mustofa’s academic background is nuclear engineering, not Qur’ānic exegesis. This study examines the sources, methods, validity, and implications of Agus Mustofa’s interpretations. It employs interpretive epistemological theory and mass communication theory to accomplish these objectives. Data is collected from a Agus Mustofa’s YouTube channel, Sufistic Islamic Studies. The results show that first, the sources used by Agus Mustofa are tafsir bil ma’tsur and tafsir bil ra’yi. Second, the method used is mauḍūʿī with a scientific approach. Third, the validity of the data obtained through coherence is inconsistent using interpretive sources, whereas correspondence and pragmatism are new in the world of interpretation. Fourth, Agus Mustofa’s interpretation provides positive cognitive, affective, and behavioral impacts on society.
Wahyuni Widi Lestari Akhmad Supriadi Munirah Copyright (c) 2023 Wahyuni Widi Lestari, Akhmad Supriadi, Munirah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-28 2023-12-28 8 2 209 229 10.32505/at-tibyan.v8i2.6945 DIALECTICS OF WOMEN DOMESTICATION IN QS. AL-AḤZĀB VERSE 33 FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF ĀBID AL-JĀBIRī'S HERMENEUTICS https://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/tibyan/article/view/7094
The dichotomy of opinions on women's work in the public and domestic spheres and the gender equality discourse have become interesting issues in Islamic studies. In addressing the activities and roles of women, some groups make al-Aḥzāb verse 33 the basis for women's obligation to stay at home and prohibit them from participating in activities in the public domain. This qualitative library research employs the hermeneutic approach. It aims to obtain the contextual meaning in al-Aḥzāb verse 33 through the theory of Quranic hermeneutics developed by a Muslim intellectual, Ābid al-Jābirī. The hermeneutics promoted by al-Jabiri aim to make the moral values contained in the Qur'an be implied in the fabric of society and harmony with the current context. To obtain an objective and comprehensive interpretation of a text, al-Jabiri takes two steps. The first step is to explore the concept of al-faṣl and the second is to explore the concept of al-waṣl. The results suggest that women are free to partake in the public sphere within certain restrictions specified by Islamic law. However, women's activities in the public sphere should not be an excuse to neglect their role in the domestic sphere.
Naylul ‘Izzah Walkaromah Safdhinar Muhammad An Noor Copyright (c) 2023 Naylul ‘Izzah Walkaromah, Safdhinar Muhammad An Noor https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-28 2023-12-28 8 2 230 249 ASTRONOMICAL VERSES IN THE QUR'AN (ANALYSIS OF IBN ʿĀSYŪR'S THOUGHTS IN KITĀB AL-TAḤRĪR WA AL-TANWĪR) https://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/tibyan/article/view/6580
This article analyzes Ibn ʿĀshūr's understanding of astronomical verses in his tafsir al-Taḥrīr wa al-Tanwīr. Indeed, the Qur'an contains scientific cues that encourage the Ummah’s development and progress in science and technology. The Qur'an mentions the heavens and the earth, the sun, the moon and its rotation, east and west, galaxies, stars and planets, the symptoms of day and night, dawn and dusk, darkness and light, the sea, rivers, springs, wind, thick clouds containing rain and thin clouds, lightning and rain. The subject of this study is described using thematic and historical approaches, and the research method is library research. The results indicate that Ibn ʿĀshūr uses a scientific approach to understand astronomical verses in the Qur'an, allowing the understanding of the relationship between natural phenomena and theological aspects of God's Power. His contribution to the science of contemporary exegesis is to encourage the study of scientific facts in interpreting the Quran and take lessons from the creation of the universe. Ibn ʿĀshūr emphasizes using other sciences to explore the meaning of the Quran while still following the rules of exegesis. This approach strengthens the theological dimension of exegesis and helps to facilitate understanding on the theological implications of glorifying the Power of God as the Creator and Ruler of the Universe.
Nur Ahmad Irfai Bukhori Abdul Shomad Septiawadi Adilah Hasna Astuti Copyright (c) 2023 Nur Ahmad Irfai, Bukhori Abdul Shomad, Septiawadi, Adilah Hasna Astuti https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-28 2023-12-28 8 2 250 271 THE RIGHTS COMPLIANCE OF PEOPLE WITH SENSORY DISABILITIES PERSPECTIVE OF TAFSIR MAQASHIDI https://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/tibyan/article/view/7197
The purpose of this article is to provide greater information on Tafsir Maqashidi's research on the rights of individuals with sensory impairments. persons with sensory disabilities have the right to the same treatment as normal persons in their situation as mukallaf. The descriptive-analytical method is being used in this library research study. Research information relevant to the topic has been gathered from books, journals, fiqh books, and other sources. The findings showed that the major goals (maqashid) of the Al-Qur’anic verses addressing individuals with sensory impairments are to uphold religious precepts, acknowledge their existence in their human capacities, and emphasize the significance of treating them with inclusivity. These services, which are all offered to individuals with sensory impairments, are founded on equality, justice, accountability, and human values. For people with sensory disabilities to participate fully in religious, educational, and social events, accessibility and facilities must be provided. This paradigm influences the ideology of religious communities. The researcher semantically interprets the ḥanîf sentence by examining the meaning of hanīf based on its history. The study concludes that ḥanîf means someone who turns away from evil, leans towards goodness and truth, always turns himself towards the Qibla of Baitul Haram, sincere in his worship, accepting all commands of Allah, and steadfast in the way of Allah, obeying all commandments without the slightest deviation. Nevertheless, employing memes to mediatize the Qur’an frequently results in misleading interpretations. This paper scrutinizes the misinterpretation of Yusuf: 28 and Al-Nisa’: 76 in a viral meme circulating on social media, which asserts that “the deceitfulness of women surpasses that of the devil.” Three key inquiries are posed: a) How are these two verses interpreted and presented in meme form? b) What factors contribute to the deviations from the original meaning? c) What impact does the mediatization of this Qur’anic verse in the meme have in fostering a negative perception of women? By leveraging Ahmad Rafiq’s Qur’anic reception and Gary R. Bunt’s cyber Islamic environments theory in conjunction with qualitative research methodologies, this study identifies a disparity in the meme’s interpretation of the Qur’anic verse when compared to traditional and contemporary tafsir (Qur’anic exegesis). The visual composition of meme content is intrinsically linked to the prevailing trend in digital information delivery, which prioritizes simplicity and leverages psychological factors through elements such as captions and color choices. Furthermore, this research underscores the implication that excessive mediatization can lead to distortions in religious narratives, as evident in these memes that employ Qur’anic verses to unfairly stereotype women. In reality, the depicted report conveys a profound cynicism, suggesting that the potential flaws of women are even more significant than those of the most vile creature, Satan.
Afwi Nadia Matsna Copyright (c) 2023 Afwi Nadia Matsna https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-30 2023-12-30 8 2 337 352 TAFKHĪM AND TARQĪQ OF RĀ’ AND LĀM IN THE RECITATIONS OF ḤAFṢ AND WARSH (A STUDY OF QIRĀ’ĀT AL-QUR’ĀN) https://journal.iainlangsa.ac.id/index.php/tibyan/article/view/7518
This article describes and analyses the tafhkīm and tarqīq of rā’ and lām in the recitations of Ḥafṣ and Warsh. It appears that religion has turned into a marketing point that alters the sacred nature of the essence of religion itself, with religious symbols serving as a way to attract consumers' interest in purchasing goods. This study describes the phenomenon of religious commodification in light of the Quran. The qualitative research method was used in the present study. Primary data were collected from business owners near Tuan Guru Babussalam Langkat's graveyard area. The field research data were analyzed from the viewpoint of the Qur'an. The findings indicated that Babussalam, Langkat has certain aspects of religious commodification. The components of commercialization include honouring intellectuals and requesting favours, or tabarruk. According to the Qur’an, the practice of commercializing religion is acceptable because no verses condemn the actions of the residents of Babussalam village.
Nurul Husna Hasanuddin Manik Copyright (c) 2023 Nurul Husna, Hasanuddin Manik https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-12-30 2023-12-30 8 2 372 390
