Abstract
The purpose of writing this article is to analyze in more depth the contribution of Christian Snouck Hurgronje to the development of historiographic writing in Aceh by analyzing two of Snouck's works entitled De Atjehers (People of Aceh) and Het Gayoland en zijne Bewoners (Land of Gayo and its inhabitants). It is hoped that the research results can provide descriptive-narrative and descriptive-analytical studies in the Historiography of Aceh Indonesia. In general, both of Snouck's works take an anthropological path to describe Acehnese society. The researcher applied the historical research method which is descriptive analysis with the main instrument in the form of literature study. This method consists of four stages, namely collecting sources (heuristics), criticism (verification), interpretation and writing (historiography). Through his work De Atjhers Snouck presents the religious and political situation of Aceh in an ethnographic, not historical, nature. Meanwhile, through his work Het Gayoland en zijne Bewoners Snouck presents the geography, political, social and religious life of the Gayo Community.
