Abstract
This study aims to determine principals' leadership in developing character education in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 2 West Aceh and the factors that become obstacles to principals in developing character education in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 2 West Aceh. The research approach used in this study is qualitative. The subjects of the study were principals, teachers, and students. The determination of research subjects was done by purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques were used using interviews, observation, and documentation methods. The types of data analysis using Miles and Huberman models are data reduction, data display, and data conclusion drawing/verification. The role of the principal as a leader in the school is in the form of continuous coaching in the development of education, namely: character modeling (modeling); the headmaster encourages all teachers and administrative staff to be good character models for all students. Second, teaching and communicating with madrasah residents regularly and continuously regarding the realization of character education in the madrasah. Third, strengthening character (reinforcing) suits all school residents (teachers, students, and administrative staff). This caring attitude is applied by involving teachers in making various decisions democratically.
